Dr. Alfares completed medical school in Saudi Arabia and joined the medical genetics residency program at McGill University, Canada. Subsequently, he joined Harvard Medical School in 2011 and completed two fellowships training in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Biochemical Genetics.

Dr. Alfares is currently working as an assistant professor at Qassim University, Saudi Arabia and as a consultant in medical genetics at National Guard Hospital. He is working on implementing high-throughput molecular genetics sequencing lab mainly for whole exome and genome within NGHA campuses also he is working as a consultant in the biochemical metabolic laboratory.
